Sunday Wrap-Up

So, today I didn't do much of anything except enjoy a wonderful cup of coffee (or two!) with a friend before church and a delicious cinnamon scone, church and Moe's after, and then a nap and studying!

And... chai tea! In a crockpot! I wanted to try this recipe because my friends who have gone to India make the BEST chai tea lattes (because the milk is essential to make a good chai tea) and see how it compares with the real deal. The recipe was good, but severely lacking in sugar. Did you know that in India, there are equal parts milk and sugar? Crazy!

Here is the recipe from A Year of Slow Cooking (modified just a tad)

--4 cups milk
--4 black tea bags
--1/4 tsp ground cloves (or allspice in a pinch, like what I did)
--1/2 tsp ginger
--4 sticks cinnamon (or 2 tsp ground)
--4 cardamom pods
--1 tsp vanilla extract
--1/4 cup sugar

The Directions.

This will serve 2-4 adults, dependent on how much they like tea.

Put everything into your crockpot. I have a 3 quart, and it didn't fill it all the way up so a smaller one would work too! Float the cinnamon sticks, cardamon pods, and tea bags on top.

Cover and cook on high for 2 hours, or until heated through. I cooked ours on low for 2 hours and 30 minutes on high and it was good. Just put your finger in the drink and see how warm it is- just depends on how hot you like your drinks.

Press the tea bags against the side of the crockpot with a spoon to release the last bit of tea and ladle into mugs.

My Verdict:

So yummy! Only a little easier than the real chai recipe, but considering I don't have a stove, this is the next best thing! I think it would only "feed" 2-3 people unless you gave all 4 people really small cups. But, it has enough sugar and spices to not make it too "tea-y" for people who are adverse to tea.

And it motivated me to make a t-shirt braid belt/headband/sash... which I will take pictures of soon, when I wear it!

And here is my favorite verse that was mentioned in church today:

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers."
                  - Galatians 6:9-10

I really needed that today, as I am so ready to leave Columbia for Charleston, but I am not done here yet! I am here for a reason, and I need to have joy in the Lord and regardless of my circumstances. Just a little gentle reminder that I needed for this upcoming week.
